Nestled in the midst of the city and the Saigon River, the Ho Chi Ming City Museum stands tall in majestic grandeur. The museum, which was erected by the French, was originally known as the Revolutionary Museum. The museum is known named after the famous Vietnamese communist hero Ho Chi Minh. Other popular names for the museum include Uncle Ho's Museum, Dragon House and Nha Rong Harbor.



Originally built as a commercial museum by the French in the late eighteenth century, the building was however used for diplomatic mission, whereby it soon became the residence of many dignitaries occupying the city. Thereon, the structure was used as a Supreme Court and finally it settled as its intended purpose of being a museum to the city's vibrant history and heritage.



The building that follows a fusion of Vietnamese and French architectural design is beautiful and majestic to beholders. The museum, which spans two stories, is bestowed with the beauty of tall pillars that boasts the gleam of glamour and grandiosity, echoing the legacy of the city's history.




The Ho Chi Ming City Museum holds many artefacts and relics that provided visitors insight into the diverse history and culture of the city of Saigon. The Pre-historic Era and Ethnic galleries that signify the cultural groups and historic nuances of are located on the ground floor. Furthermore, it also neighbours the galleries that house various artworks, paintings, photos and models, which denotes the memoirs of the early city. One of the main attractions from this gallery includes a model of the Gia Dinh Citadel, which dates back to its creation in 1790 and demise in 1835. The Citadel is said to have been situated in the area that is today occupied by the Reunification Palace. The West Wing of the ground floor also houses various memoirs from the American war and other renaissance artefacts. Furthermore, it is also home to various other civil and cultural remnants such as displays of traditional wedding and festive costumes. On the lawn of the museum, various remnants of the war in the form of American aircraft can be found as well as a war tank and several classic cars are on display.




The first floor of the Ho Chi Minh City Museum is home to the economic and political relics. Housing the nationalist movement related to Ho Chi Minh himself, the galleries hold memorabilia such as pencils, journals and fragments of his clothing. Apart from the Vietnamese hero;s belongings, this gallery houses a fine collection of currencies dating back from the rise of the city to present times.
