The Los Angeles Dodgers have been a major stake holder in Major League Baseball for many years. Their home since 1962 has been the Dodgers Stadium built in the Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles. This is one of the very few ball parks that have retained a non commercial name through the years.
Built over a period of 4 years, the stadium cost 23 million dollars, which was entirely supplied through private funding. Dodgers Stadium now has the honour of being the third oldest Major League Baseball ball park. However it is the largest in terms of seating capacity.
Dodgers Stadium is one the best maintained ball parks and constantly makes renovations and changes. In 2005 nearly all the seating was replaced. However the old colours of orange, yellow, sky and turquoise blue were maintained, albeit in more subtle shades. Seating along the base line was converted into a 'box' style. Apart from this a multiyear development plan was put together which includes changes featuring a Dodgers Museum, plaza, restaurants, and park area.
Having been built before the modern technology era, the Dodgers Stadium was essentially only for baseball. Being in California it was also made earthquake resistant- which has proved to be successful through the years.
A Dodger taking to the field, hitting a home run and a Dodger win are marked enthusiastically by strobe lights, which were included in 1999.
Although capable of holding more fans, the stadium has always maintained its 56'000 limited capacity. Even when new seats were added, a similar amount was taken out of one of the seating levels to maintain the capacity.
Now more than 45 years since it was built, the Dodgers Stadium has maintained its awe inspiring base ball history and atmosphere. It is a must visit not just for baseball fans but any visitor who appreciates history and stunning views of the city. If visitors seek
Los Angeles hotels and more specifically a
Pasadena hotel from which to base themselves, then The Langham Huntington Hotel & Spa, Pasadena will be an ideal choice.
