An excellent way to break away from the hustle and bustle of busy Singapore and to take a break from endless shopping expeditions is to visit the Jurong Bird Park. The Jurong Bird Park is south Asia's largest aviary with a collection of over 9,000 birds representing 600 species from all over the globe.

The park has a variety of entertaining exhibits; a particularly popular and entertaining exhibit is the Penguin Parade which is the world's second largest Penguin exhibit. The exhibit which is spread out over 1,500 square meters has a total of over 200 penguins. Five different species of these flightless birds can be seen here, they are the Humboldt, the Rockhopper, the Macaroni, the Fairy and the majestic King Penguin. The Penguin expedition is housed in a special climate controlled environment, the temperature is kept static at 16 degrees below zero and also has large pool constructed with a backdrop of snowy cliffs, rocks and alcoves to nestle in. Visitors can also witness the spectacular way in which Penguins "fly" (swim) underwater through a large underwater observation glass.


The Waterfall Aviary is ranked as the world's largest walk in aviary with an area of two hectares. It has a man made waterfall that more than 30 meters tall, the exhibit has about 1,500 birds from South America and Africa and gives visitors the opportunity to watch them roost, preen and fly. Set in a lush tropical valley the aviary has over 10,000 exotic varieties of trees from 125 species. Visitors can walk around the exhibit using the narrow footpaths or climb on to two large observation decks near the waterfall that offer excellent views of the in mates.

A number of other interesting attractions can also be enjoyed here such as Swan Lake, the Birds of Prey exhibit, Parrot Paradise, Pelican Cove and many more featuring exotic bird species. Located on the western slope of Jurong Hill the Bird Park is within easy reach of the city.

A hotel in Singapore within easy reach of the transportation network would the ideal place to stay to explore the Jurong Bird Park and other attractions in the city. A number of Singapore hotels can also be found close to the Bird Park and many other Singapore attractions.
